Well hello there!! Cup of Tea???

Well this is my first ever blog! How exciting! Nice to meet you all! Well actually at the minute your not all, your my cats that I'm reading this out to as I speak.... there not soooo interested. There just concerned as to why I'm typing and not feeding them! I'll win them over.... So, here we are. Like I said I'm starting this blog because a girl only has so much room in her head for cake recipes, cats in little jumpers and new ways to do my hair so i thought i should blog it out and maybe I might actually impart some form of wisdom onto, well, someone that's not either Mylo, Gertie or Winnie (my trio of cats.) There sick of being told how their hair would look in pincurls...... I have much more then cats, cakes and hair-dye to offer to you, so bear with me BUT for my first little nugget of cakey wisdom, I'm going to start with something cake based. I feel that every brilliant idea was probably started off by an excellent person having a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a little sit down..... so that is how I shall start!

So recently it was Halloween and I threw, quite frankly a brilliant party. Well not so much as a brilliant party as a brilliant buffet! Oh this girl knows how to throw a buffet!! Food I think is like a brilliant little magnet that brings people together. We bond over it when your Grandmother teaches you how to make the PERFECT scone. We laugh about it on second dates when you've tried to impress with a gloriously risen, proud and gleaming crest of souffle but in actuality you have produced something that resembles Nora Batty's stockings... all sunken and wrinkly... We cry with it when completely agreeing with girlfriends that "The Notebook" is clearly the most beautifully depressingly romantic film we have EVER seen and that another Double Chocolate Cookie is EXACTLY the same as having Noah snog you on a lake...... anywhoo a woman digresses, back to Halloween. So I had an excellent idea that sinking a barbie doll into a oozing chocolate cake would be my crowning glory! Off in search of said best chocolate cake recipe ever i went, and i think I've found it! I have eaten a lot of chocolate cake in my time but this one is......well words cant describe but its good! VERY GOOD! So here my lovelies, share in my cakey joy!

My little beauty before it was moved to the cake plate. I wanted a sludgier look to my icing so it looked like my "Pretty Paula" doll was rising from some ooze. But iced closely this cake would look very smart, good enough for any occasion as the picture in the link shows....

A few tips though- they worked for me, and hopefully they will save you a bit of trial and error!
1-Get all your butter and eggs at room temperature, it just seems to give a fudgier, crumbier, cake!
2-If you don't have buttermilk, all you need to do is combine 1tablespoon of lemon juice per cup of milk and Hey Presto!! Instant buttermilk!!
3-The cake recipe says that you should split the cake, making layers with ganache in the middle. This was not in the slightest bit possible with mine as the middle was so fudgy that it couldn't be cut! But with a cake that moist and rich in the middle, who needs the ganache?? It just leaves a little extra ganache in the bowl- cooks treat!!

Right I'm off to think of some more excellent things to tell you all! So we shall speak soon my lovellies!! much love and get the kettle on! xoxo
